Listened to the hearings on Iraq and Afghanistan on C-SPAN today. Lots of respect for the Generals running things, Abizaid and Pace.
They're in an awful position, fessing up to the litany of failures honestly, while having to avoid criticizing the political morons running the ship. Their clearly doing all they can, and acknowledge that it isn't working.
The mainstream media headlines have it right; it's civil war. 6,000 Iraqis killed by sectarian violence in the last two months.
Interesting to hear Senator Warner (R) posit that Bush needs to go back to Congress for authority to continue an American military presence in Iraq once it's civil war, vs. our previous mis-adventure.
And an appropriate McCain-quip about the mis-use of our troops;
"What I worry about is -- we're playing a game of whack-a-mole."
