Club 20: Owens 'Untrustworthy'
Posted by jbholston at 11:55 PM

Club 20 has joined AG Salazar and Rep McInnis and voted unanimously to oppose Referendum A.

That's a surprise, given the diversity of interests this powerful lobbying group represents.

I can't fault their reasoning:

"I can't support a blank check," said Rick Wyatt, a Club 20 board member from Jackson County.

Some of the 100 members were also concerned that Governor Owens is "untrustworthy", and wants to politicize the Water Board as soon as he's given the authority Ref A would provide;

Smith (Republican state rep from Grand Junction) said it's not his father (a senior member of the Water Board) he doesn't trust. He said he believes that Walcher (Owens' Director of Colorado's Department of Natural Resources) plans to change the structure of the board as part of an overhaul of the Department of Natural Resources, which means the current board might not have any say on Referendum A projects.

Owens politicizing a supposedly objective oversight authority??!!??? It's not as if he's done it with Metro State .... or the Division of Wildlife and Natural Resources .... or CSU's Presidency ..... or the Colorado Commission on Higher Education .....

Once again Gov. Owens bows to the God of Housing Starts (Developers) Is it it Colorados best intrest to become the next California (broke)? or have the vision to see opportunity from the latest drought. Dillion Reservoir was built to "forever remove the lack of drought water storage from the Denver Metro Area". Unrestricted growth is at the root of major problems in Colorado. In the long run would CO benefit from letting Calif and other states deal with water driven growth? CO could then host visitors to the great recreational playground natives and newcomers all want to protect.
