No joy at JD Edwards
Posted by jbholston at 08:38 AM

In June I summarized Peoplesoft's JD Edwards' takeover as; Gov Owens sends 1000 Tech Jobs to CA;

The companies' said there is '$80 million in overlap', and that headquarters will be in California. Gee, guess where more jobs will be lost? (Prime target? The 1,000 JD Edwards' Colorado employees who aren't software developers).

I don't like being proved right on this one;

After downplaying the odds that PeopleSoft's purchase of Denver- based J.D. Edwards would generate large-scale layoffs, PeopleSoft's top brass said up to 1,000 employees at the merged companies would get pink slips. ...

...PeopleSoft Chief Financial Officer Kevin Parker did say the cuts would be concentrated in the administrative and marketing divisions, as well as among middle management.

Analysts have predicted the bulk of the cuts would probably fall among former J.D. Edwards employees.

I also argued that Governor Owens and his crack economic development team should have been at the table long before this was happening (Owens was in Kazakhstan -- remember those jobs he was bringing back from there? -- wihle this was going down).

But the right wing running the state doesn't actually believe in development, you see; leave it to markets instead! And they were too busy forcing kids to take the Pledge, cutting back homeowners' rights to sue builders, redistricting.....
